GUIDED MONTANA FLY FISHING

Montana fly fishing inherently means different things to different people and the destinations are many and varied. Here in Kootenai River Country we can honestly offer a different experience. This northwest corner of the state is far less traveled and is more like the Pacific Northwest ecosystem than traditional big sky country. It’s green, lush, mountainous, and we’re not exaggerating when we say less crowded. Seriously, we only see a couple other drift boats on the water each day. If we’re fishing remote smaller rivers, we don’t see anyone...for days.

THE LINEHAN OUTFITTING STAFF OF MONTANA FLY FISHING GUIDES ARE SOME OF THE BEST IN THE STATE.

We don’t see ourselves as a means to an end. We want you to learn, to experience facets of the sport you have never encountered before, and to come away from fishing with us with that “wow!” sense of accomplishment. It’s wrong to guarantee lots of fish or lots of big fish every day. Mother Nature does what she wants. Period. But we can guarantee our knowledge and can guarantee that you will be a better angler after you fish with us. And that’s what we believe you’re paying for anyway.

  • The Best Guided Float-Fishing

"This is the best guided float-fishing I've had in my 35 years of fly-fishing; both guides we went with were excellent. Everything about if was first class, and the lunches were delicious!"

  • Exceeded All Expectations

"I can't say enough about the 5 days I spent fishing with the Linehan crew this September. My first trip to Montana exceeded all expectations and I am already looking forward to going back next year. Thanks for providing an amazing experience."

  • The Best I Have Ever Fished With

"Tim Linehan and his crew provide one of the best float experiences available in the Western states. At a time when boat traffic has become a distraction on most western rivers, the Kootenai River provides excellent fishing and solitude. I was mildly disappointed one day when I saw two other boats in the river. We saw more eagles than boats on a daily basis. Tim and his guides are the best that I have ever fished with."

  • We Are Looking Forward To Our Next Trip

"Linehan Outfitting was the third guide service we have hired in as many years and hands down, the absolutely best! Tim’s knowledge of the river had us on fish ALL day long for two straight days, the conversation was lively & Joanne provide the best lunches (and brownies). We stayed at one of the Linehan’s cabins and it was impeccably clean with a nice view and whitetail deer everywhere. We are looking forward to our next trip to the Yaak Valley!"

  • They Teach You What Living Harmoniously With The Wilderness Can Be

"How many fish trips or outfitter experiences can you say left you a better person? From a pure angling angle, my couple days on the Kootenai River with Tim Linehan was top three epic - fresh or salt - in some 49 years of fly fishing. While getting to appreciate and release healthy, native strain rainbow trout and primordial Bull trout was sublime, the fishing was really more a means to an end. Setting was surreal too. It's easy to imagine the Kootenai as the kind of unspoiled, wilderness river - we only saw one other boat in two days of floating! - my grandfather got to fish. And the food... Chez Panisse of the Yaak is not hyperbole.

But it's Joanne, Tim and the crew that really set Linehan apart. These kind, empathic people have an intrinsic talent to make you feel like you're the most important person on the planet. Through example, they teach you what living harmoniously with the wilderness can be like. I left them (reluctantly) with my faith in humanity restored and a newly raised bar for myself in what I aspire to be as a conservationist and fellow human."

  • It Was An Ultimate Hunt Of A Lifetime

“The accommodations, owners, (Tim and Joanne) were amazing and my guide Sean a 10 out of 10.  I highly recommend Linehan Outfitting for your hunt of a lifetime.  I didn’t know what I was getting into being a first timer but I cannot say enough, what an amazing, successful adventure/trip.  I have one hundred percent trust in all they do and will be back.

  • These Are Absolutely Amazing People

“I hunted mountain lion in January with Linehan Outfitting and was super happy with my guide Nate and with Tim and Joanne.  They want you to be successful…and success I had.  I took a 165lbs lion and am looking forward to my next hunt with Linehan Outfitting.

  • Thanks For Your Gift Of A Fantastic Hunting Experience

“From top to bottom, Tim and Joanne and their incredible staff provided honest, professional, and caring service during the entirety of my booking experience.  The Yaak cabin lodging was spotless, warm and inviting and we had a wonderful time during our stay.  My guide Nate’s expertise was invaluable in putting me into game and he worked tirelessly to give me the hunting success I desired in a mature, whitetail buck.  If you’re looking for an authentic and honest Montana hunting experience, look no further. I have hunted whitetails for over 45 years across north America and this was without doubt my all-time favorite.

  • These Folks Are So Good It’s Humbling

“Day one was an epic dusky grouse hunt in high terrain and we were rewarded with great birds and some pretty cool dog work from Tim’s setters.  Tim knows the country and the bird covers like the back of his hand, and among our flushes, was an iconic three bird ruffed flush the morning of day three.  The attention to detail, the professionalism, and the mastery these guys have on all levels is very impressive.  They work it hard, are passionate about what they do, and care deeply about the experience they are delivering.  Five stars!”
